Life Continues

Some of my special friends came over and wrote scriptures and prayers on studs in my home.
 It is a wonderful blessing.
Those words will always be there blessing us.

Now the drywall is up.
They’ve been taped and floated and texture is on.
The interior doors are being hung. Trim is going up.
When paint goes on the walls, I will be sooo happy!
 It’s a process. A process I didn’t plan on at all.
No one told us how hard this would be.

People out of town always ask if we are back in our house, if life is back to normal.
We are all so used to rapid recoveries. But, no, this is a difficult recovery.
We had flood insurance. So many didn’t. We were not supposed to flood.
I have friends that don’t have walls up yet.
 Keep praying.

Yes, the fireplace had to be torn down. Our firebox had to come out the front.
Most in my neighborhood did. So I get to design a new one.
Hoping I will love it! None of this is fun.
It’s because of how we got here
Just wanted to update my regulars that don’t see me on fb.
Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the USA!
We will be at my daughter’s.
We are so thankful.
 This could’ve been much worse.

Harvey Saga Continued

I know I need to update my friends that only know me through my blog.
We are surviving.
The wonderful heavy trash trucks came from San Antonio to pick up our debris.
It took weeks.
Our yard looks much better..... but not back to normal yet!

The picture below is from a couple of weeks ago as well.
We are done with the dehumidifiers.
Our house is dry and our mold report came back all clear!
We are cleared for drywall!

So I've been painting swatches of paint on the remaining walls.
I'll take a picture of that today.
I already have 12 colors up there....
Getting a few more samples today.
(we are staying in an apartment)

The roses in the back seem to be surviving as well!

I hope you are doing well.
Praying for our friends in Florida, Puerto Rico and California as well as South Texas!

Hurricane Harvey

The photo above was taken from a neighbor's house before they evacuated.
They were upstairs looking out a window.

Below was taken by another neighbor as they went by in a boat.
We had left the night before in our truck.

Being who you are..... I thought I'd show you a few art room losses...

I'll try and share more later....... just wanted to drop by and say I am here and we are doing fine.
It's just going to be a long process to rebuild.  But don't worry about us.  We will be back and I'll be back in my art room with A LOT less stuff..... which is probably a good thing.

The pins above were made in a QB5 art pin swap many years ago.
They fell into the flood water and even tho they don't look too bad in this picture..... they were unsalvageable.

But I cherish the memories!
That's what's important!

The Bigger Flood

It was Memorial Day Weekend here in the USA and it was flooding in Houston..... again.
I've lived in my area since 1979........ in Houston since 1972...... and we certainly have some floods in Houston.  1994 was the worst I've seen in my neighborhood. This was not as bad as that.  But it was bad enough.  We had a river flowing down the golf course behind us. No land to be seen on Sunday

My "yard guys" did show up on Saturday!

Since you couldn't play golf............

The next picture was on Saturday night before all the land disappeared.....

I was close to putting up a sign on the back fence warning of the presence of water moccasins,
but after one was in my yard I wouldn't go back in the yard!  Let those people in the water learn the hard way!

Yesterday land appeared! (I feel like Noah!) And today we see the sand trap!!!!

I hope you had a great weekend!

Rained in Houston

I've gotten so I use the Blogger app on my phone to upload my pictures to my blog.
Then I forget that I did that.
So these are a little late getting published.

This is a picture of my knock-out roses a few weeks ago.  I cut them all the way back and they came back great!  The golf course looks good, too.

And then ......... it rained in Houston......   A LOT!!!!
And where I live didn't get the worst of it.
But...... that rain has to go somewhere and one of the places it ends up is in the San Jacinto River, which flows into Lake Houston and then to the Gulf of Mexico.  I live close to the river and the lake.

If you can't play golf, you can fish! DH and neighbor caught some catfish!

City of Houston......... lifted that image off the internet somewhere....

The deer finally showed back up.

And it finally started to recede.  It was all gone by Friday. But it left a mess in a lot of places.
People that live on the river were flooded.   Lives were lost.  Water is a powerful force.
Nature is a powerful force!

I am so thankful we are okay.  Our children and their families were safe as well.
We were never worried about our house as we sit up from the course...... about 5 feet up... the pictures look like it's closer than it is.  And then our house is up a hill and higher up.

So thankful!
More storms headed our way tonight and tomorrow in south Texas.
Praying for dissipation.

It Rained......... a lot....

I have lots I could say about the flooding in Texas right now.
Our hearts are broken over Wimberley.
If you've read my blog awhile, you know that my family
vacations there a lot.  We were last there in May of 2014.
We love Wimberley and the ankle deep Blanco River.
So sad.

These two pictures are of the golf course behind my house this morning.
It always gets some run off from the San Jacinto River when it floods.
There is a reason my neighborhood is built up above the golf course.
It's at least a five foot drop down my back fence to the course.

I now have egrets, etc. for my viewing pleasure.
And at night........ the frogs sing like I've never heard.
I think a million came in with the water!
It's definitely a swamp experience!

Pray for the flood victims!
