Paper Lanterns

So here is what I did with one of my sewn sheets....
Mary Ann Moss shows you how to make a paper lantern in her SEWN class
and even tho my colors aren't that exciting,
I made one!
It's pretty cool!

I also made a felt owl on Tuesday when we had some icy precip!!!
It's for a certain little girl!
Have a great Super Bowl weekend!

Sewing Paper

Now that the big ice storm of 2014 is over here in Houston,
(that's an inside joke)
I got into the art room today and just started sewing paper together that was in my trash!
I brought a trash bag in here with intentions of emptying the can and taking it to the recycling bin outside.
But.... I had just watched some of the videos from Mary Ann Moss' Sewn class
and.... well...
you know!
I made some pieced paper.......
made a little book.........
I once made those all the time... such fun!
I am determined to use up my stash of STUFF!
At the rate I'm going it will take a decade.... apparently I can't throw any of it away!
I know it's not a great photo.
But I'm not trying to get into any Stampington publications ya know!
So I just snapped one with the old iphone and uploaded it.
I did feel a need to get those dead birds off my lead photo for my blog....
But they HAD to be documented! I just felt their time was past.
So now I'm going to make some books with my pieced paper!
(and no, I haven't done any thing with that wool yet...
I decided to not let it control me! ha!)
Happy Weekend!
Stay Warm!

We lost two woodpeckers last week.
I had seen the couple fly into a window the week before,
but they flew off to a tree afterwards....
At least they died together....

I don't know WHY I shared these photos with you...
It just seemed to me that you would care.... They were so pretty....

Will I Ever Run Out of Sheet Music?

This morning I went to an estate sale.
There was sheet music there!
I always buy a little..... I'm afraid one day I will run out!
You know how that is?
I got two thick books of it for 50 cents each!
Peggy alerted me to the sale on Facebook last night!
Big thanks to her.
Turned out I knew the couple that had lived in the house.
The wife was the last one to die.
They went to my church.
Does it make it harder for you to buy stuff or go through it if you knew the people?
It definitely gives me a different feeling.
Quite often I do know the deceased when it's an estate sale in my area.
(I've lived here a long time.)
But once I realize who the people were,
I often look more tenderly and know that
they valued these things and enjoy having something of theirs.

See the doll in the photo at the top?
Great condition!
And I'm sure I had one as a child.
The papoose on the back is there as well!

There wasn't a lot of great stuff as I'm sure the family kept a lot.
And I think this was the 3rd day!!!
But I was glad I could contribute some to the sale....
Even when I think something is priced too high,
if I think of the family it helps.
Do you go to estate sales?

Did You Send These to Me?

I don't remember who sent these to me!
Did you?

(They are prints, not original work.)

Wool Hopes!

Inside this box labeled HOPE,
is my wool!!!
The other day I got it out and placed it where I would have to see it
most of the day!
I bought some great yardage a couple of years ago to make a table runner.
I think I'm on the verge of actually starting it....

I've spent a lot of time on Pinterest being inspired.
I've sketched a few ideas.
I even laid the yardage out on the table to see what I was dealing with!
Just think.... in a few weeks I may actually begin!
Have you done much wool applique?

I got the Pottery Barn pillow cover "Snow" for Christmas....
Finally put a pillow form in it today and plopped it on the bed!
I think it'll work year round, don't you?
It was so sunny today....
colors hard to capture here...
my bedroom walls are a very light seafoam green!
Lots of grays in the bed linens....
the throw at the end is a bit of a seafoam green...

Is it too COLD for This?

I read on Lorrie's blog that it's Hot Tea Month or such....
but for me it's Blue Bell Peppermint Ice Cream Season
until it disappears off the freezer shelves!
And the brown stuff you see in the bowl is Bailey's!

Lingering Magic

Great fireworks on New Year's Eve at my friend's house....
at least on her street!
The gang below didn't want to be packed away!
I looked them up on Ebay and told my daughter their value.
I'm afraid she'll throw everything out when I'm gone!

(all these photos were taken with my iphone....... it's the only way I know I will actually
get them on the blog in a timely fashion.  I upload them to the blog with the Blogger app.)
Below is the deer I had on my Wish List!
My son and his wife got it for me.
(mostly his wife I must say)
I can hang things on his antlers (but you knew that)!!!
And yes, those antlers come out.  They are wire.
It's from Wisteria.

Hard freeze coming tomorrow night..... my things are all still blooming.
My lemon tree is blooming it's little head off...
also the Christmas Cactus.... They are all huddled together on the side patio.

Do you have any magic happening?

Owl Be Seeing You!

He's a little frayed in his wings...
But I whipped him up one night a couple of weeks ago
out of the banner fabric for a banner I made for my
soon to be born grandson's room.
I really have to start sewing more this year!
I almost forgot how!
I did some embroidery stitches on top of his wings,
but didn't photograph that.
I never pick a word for the year!
if I was going to pick a word.......
it might be....
I don't think that's a good choice.
But I hope I sew more this year...
I looked at my blog last year and the only thing
I really did art wise was that
Index Card a Day
then I did on my own a Tag a Day for awhile.
I didn't even make anything for Christmas!!!
Oh.... I did do a few canvases in that one class
(Junelle and Christy)....
I'm going to do better....
My blog is boring!!!
Happy New Year anyway!
Come back and see if I'm sewing!!!!
