Dress Shopping

Friday I went shopping for a dress to wear to my daughter's wedding
in July.
I found NOTHING!
Thought I'd go to Flickr and see what Mothers of the Bride
are really wearing..... see above!
The dragon lady that helped me at the most upscale store in Houston
told me that the dress below was too low-cut for me to wear
to my daughter's wedding.

I think she's crazy... but I'm not going back to get it anyway.

It's silk on top and chiffon on the bottom.

And, it's not black...it's navy like the bridesmaids dresses.

I think I need to keep in mind how will I appear on Flickr!

Have you bought a MOB dress lately?

Pretty pictures! I don't know what I'd do - I haven't gotten anybody married yet, so I'm not much help, but I know it will be difficult! Good luck with that Linda Jo - I know you'll find just the right thing!!!

You will find the perfect dress Linda Jo! I had a similar experience quite a few years ago at a dress store. The lady was so mean to me. I went home and cried and then proceeded to tell everyone I know not to shop there. Keep looking..you will find THE dress. :)

When I was looking for a dress for my daughter's wedding, I ran across an essay in an old Victoria magazine that put everything into perspective.

The conclusion was that since no one looks at the MOB anyway, the only way to get a little attention was to show a little cleavage.

You'll find the perfect dress - just have patience!

Is it black or Navy? It's really a lovely dress, but maybe a tad dark for July! Still, I think you'd lovely in a burlap bag.

I just hate shopping for dresses. With my stupid orthotics, I look dowdy in anything.

thank goodness no :) Maybe, I should go preschool graduation dress shopping?? Target has some very cute finds :)

Love to you.... I know you look SMASHING as Mother of the Beautiful Bride, no matter what you pick.

If you found that dress in just about ANY other color, I would say YES to that dress. The color (black? dark brown?) and bodice (is that leather?) looks a little Goth. You need cleavage tattoos and some studded cuffs. But then no one will be looking at the bride and will be wondering WHO added you to the guest list. heehee

Your dream dress is out there, Linda!

I haven't had to buy one in a while... That black one that you tried on is gorgeous... My only advise is to buy one that you feel good in! After all... that day is a culmination of your hard work too... and you should feel proud and beautiful!

I bought one last year and even though the wedding wasn't formal it was the hardest dress I ever bought. It was also very low cut but I found a lace cami in the exact same brown and no one knew it wasn't part of the dress. My second daughter says she wants to get married on the beach & everyone can wear shorts. Sounds good to me!

Yes - get that dress. I see lots of chiffon flowers...! It looks a little dark for you but I like the styling of it. What a difficult task to find the right dress. Happy shopping!

Linda...Since Jordan's wedding was at a resort in Phoenix, I wore pants with a long tunic type jacket. The MOB dresses are NOT made for my body type at all. I spent countless hours online searching and finally found what I wanted at The Woodlands Dillards in the Boutique area. And there is a T. Carolyn's in Champions Forest...but everything there has to be ordered.

I liked Alex Evenings for a brand...Dillards carries that brand.

Happy Hunting! Putting you on my prayer list...ha. Julia

Can you go with your daughter? She's your best help with this. And the skirt and dressy top is a really good idea. Try it all on with pretty, comfortable shoes before you say yes. Good luck- you'll look fabulous!
