ICAD 2017

It's Index Card a Day time again.

I'm doing the Index Card a Day thing again this year.
If you don't know what that is check it out at Daisy Yellow.
It's not too let to join in.
It began June 1 and goes 61 days.

I'm sharing daily (or trying) on Instagram #dyicad2017.  I'm @lindajopaperart.
For your pictures on Instagram you need to leave background showing as
Instagram will crop it to a square.

Series of 25

I took another Misty Mawn class a few months ago....  Make/Do Art.
One of the assignments was to make a series of 25.
I cut watercolor paper into 5 x 5 pieces and started.
I used the same paint colors as Misty did.

The theme of mine is Amazing Grace.
Most of the pieces do not stand alone, but work with the group for a message.
God's amazing grace has been so evident in my life I wanted to celebrate it
with this art process.

I ended up hanging them in an art niche in my house that was empty.
I had to do a lot of measurements and use actual math,
but I got the nails hung so that I can later take
these pieces of paper down and hang 5 x 5 canvases up.

These pieces have Tim Holtz hangers on them that are taped to the back.
Canvases will be hung just on the inside of the stretcher bars.

I know that picture is blurry.
It's really hard to take a picture in that spot.

If you've been reading my blog since the beginning, you may recognize some of the art work as
some of it was simply taken from existing pieces already.  And some of the women I use repeatedly
in art.  I realized one day that most successful artists reuse things, they don't reinvent the wheel every time they create.

Just letting you know I really am still here.
And I'm still playing with paper and paint and glue.

Boxes Continue

Waaaaaay back in 2014 I took Misty Mawn's Full Circle class
and fell in love with the Exploding Box!

(Edited on Feb 5 2016.... just so you know.... you can google exploding box and see lots of tutorials and options. They've been around a long time!)

I've made a few and some I've sent to the QB5 Group on their birthdays in 2015.

This box was mailed to Carole in New Zealand.
The thing is that you can mail these flat ...
which is a big deal really!

I added some fabric to Carole's since she's the quilter in our group........ our group is "kind of defunct" but we still email and talk on the phone and message each other!

The box below was mailed to Nathalie.......... they all have some bits collaged in them that would remind us all of one another..... from prior swaps, etc.

Now we move on to Patty's box...

They all had an old public library card from the great stash Nathalie once had and shared!

....... Patty has a "thing" for swans.

If I mixed up any of the pictures....... hopefully they will forgive me.

If you want to see Margaret's box...... click HERE!

If you want to see MY box....... it's right HERE!

I have to tell you these boxes are a bit time consuming and I started the last three at the same time.
Didn't want to post pictures of these last three until they all had their birthdays! It gave me time with two of them having late November and an early December birthday!

Happy New Year!!!

It's Class Time!

Misty Mawn is starting a new class in mid February!
If you remember, she did Full Circle in 2014 and I loved it.
I've done several posts showing the Exploding Box and the Gesso Book from it.
(I think you can search my blog for Misty Mawn Class and find them.)
Anyway....... the rate for the new class goes up next week, so you should look into this.
I'm taking it, along with some of my friends! Don't get left out!

Index Card A Day July 2015

I haven't kept up with ICAD this year as I have in the past.
But I do still love it!

Thought I'd show you a couple of cards just
so you will know I'm still here.

I uploaded these and then realized I should maybe blur my last name out.
There might be someone out there that doesn't know it yet.
(cut up boarding passes from Vegas trip)

So I'm still working on videos from the Misty Mawn class...
some of you will recognize the girl in the lower left!

Happy July!

Gesso Book

Yesterday I was working in my gesso book...... an old Gregg Shorthand book.
These pages are mostly inspired by the Misty Mawn class... Full Circle Workshop.
But I find that I use this book for all my classes to a degree.

Need to do the cover....

So............. this is to say that I am doing a few things..... but mostly just my art journals.... which
is what I consider this book to be.

An Exploding Box for Margaret!

I made a little exploding box for Margaret.....
like here....

These are SO fun to do!

It has a friendship theme, with ties to bees and to her much loved Asian papers...
And these boxes travel so well.
I just packed it open like in the above photo.
Then before I saw her, I folded it up and put it in a gift bag!
So they would mail easily!

You really should make one and then show me!

There's Hope for Us Paper Hoarders!

Do you know who Eunice Parsons is?
If you do paper collage, you really need to watch this.

And also click HERE! I couldn't embed this one....
and you reallllly need to watch it.

And here is her tumbler page.

I love on the second video how she puts a white mat around
her compositions - totally helps you see your work. I knew this once
upon a time.............  sometimes I need reminding!

My Exploding Box Begins

I've gotten in my art room a few times recently.... and I started an exploding box!
It's an exploding box done the Misty Mawn way!
I have to say this is the best online class I've ever taken....

It's her Full Circle class and you should definitely take it.
The videos will be up until June of 2015..... which is what it will take for me to
do them all or even most of them....

I'll show you when I finish......
still have to do the outside covers of the box!!
