Stuff I Got

Yes, I bought a wasp's nest.

Bought these old letters from Jill Suzanne. And now that I've read them, I want more of them.

This couple, in 1936 Texas, was corresponding and planning their summer wedding.

I believe she (Nan) taught at Austin College

(that's how the newspaper clipping listed the college name).

He was Leroy Kimbrough and worked in the lab for Hoovers

developing a sweetener in Beaumont.

He made 82 cents an hour!

I'm trying to just let it go.

They were getting married that summer...

so I'm sure their letters stopped at that point.

I may have to write to Suzanne.....

Got some old linens and embroidered pieces to cut up.
And a Mexican parakeet at Junk Gypsy.
Good prices on the small deer (for my glitter houses) and the santa picks!
(at Cole's Antiques...where it's air conditioned and has bathrooms!)
(and they have nothing newer than 1959)

Okay...so a little over a year ago I could not find a metal flower frog to save my life in Canton.

They are all over the place between Round Top and Warrenton.

The current issue of Flea Market Decorating has that one that has the heart shapes!

I just went to their site to get the url and I see

that their 2nd issue will be out next February!!

You know what that means?

That means that the "current issue" I bought this week

is one I already have. It all looked new to me.

My friend, Julia, was pointing out to me

how much n e u t r a l is out "there"...

and all the burlap and linen....

I could've bought stamped burlap and stamped linen and made my own pillow,

(they had a ton)

but I would not have done that cording....

so paid sweet little old man $40 for the pillow

(although he was going to sell it to me for $35, but his daughter said it was $40).

I didn't want her to fuss at him.

Do you make purchases to make people happy, too?

Hot Time in Round Top/Warrenton

To say it was oppressively hot in South Texas last week would be an understatement.....
I have never been that hot when shopping!
The two things just don't go well together!
I must tell you that this is called
because they have antiques there.
There are some new things.... but not many...
But I don't believe I've ever gone the "first week...."
known as "Preview Week" before.
I prefer the 2nd week when everything is open.
So ...it was hard and a little disappointing....
I did manage to buy a few treasures tho and will show them to you next time.
I just uploaded the pictures on my camera...
haven't unwrapped all my goodies yet.
Above is a photo my daughter took on her phone and sent me.
She KNOWS what I like.
I had already seen it..... she was there with a girlfriend shopping.
I NEVER found doll heads for sale. I did look for them.
Seems like everyone is using them now and wants to sell them to me already repurposed!
I loved this little tent..... bought some old letters from her.... Jill Suzanne!
Here are just some random shots I took going down the street....
Between venues you see places like this....
There is no way you can see everything that is there...
not even if it was sixty degrees!
(which it's supposed to be in Houston Monday morning!!!!)
See the deputy below..
last Spring I got a photo of her on her horse.
Bought some gourds...
(no, just three)
A car parked outside of Royer's Cafe.....
(Did you see the pie and ice cream hidden up there?
Royer's Cafe.... just order the cinnamon bread pudding...
it's incredible...)
Next time I go.... I'm waiting and going to Marburger Farm Antique Show
which opens next Tuesday. It's between Round Top and Warrenton.
We are puppy-sitting Henry this weekend.
He's waiting for me to finish updating my blog.....

Fall Antique Week in Texas

I decided I should get some fall decorations out today.....
because by the weekend I will be in a
"fall state of mind".
"Why," you ask?
Because THURSDAY I'm going to Round Top/Warrenton for
I'm staying til Saturday! How exciting is that!
My daughter and a friend are going and so I'm taking a friend and going, too!!!
I know it sounds like it's a long way for me to go....
it's actually about an hour away....maybe an hour and a half.
Theresa has so much info on her blog.....
click her image below for her blog....
she hosts a Blog Party every year...
I am never there on the right day....
it's Sunday the 26th this year.
So if you are coming to Texas for this twice a year event.... you need to check her site out. BFF Virginia gave me a little stitched owl last week.....
isn't he cute!!!

So..........are you going?

Mail Call

Thought I'd show you some of the great stuff I've gotten in the mail
in the last few months that I have failed to show you.
I ordered the fun pennant notecard and the fabulous stitched "purse" from
Carole at her
The little purse/bag is darling and I can use it for lots...
but mostly some little stitching scraps to carry in my purse for emergency idle times!
Below is a charm that Natalea, (my Silver Bella Buddy)
from New York,sent me....
she sent them to a bunch of us in a giveaway awhile back.
She has an Etsy Shop, too...

My dear, sweet Anna.... she wrote me a long, long letter

on lined paper the other day!

It was just like the olden days!

Inside she stuck a little stitching for me!

Anna and family just moved from California to Oman!

So she's not been able to update her blog for awhile...

but soon!

(if you ever play Blog Trivial Pursuit...

Anna left the very first comment on my blog...over 500 posts ago!)

Patty won a giveaway from me a week ago...

it had some lace in it that I had dyed.

She scanned the lace and printed it out and made a card for me!!!!

Don't you love it? And she stuck some collage goodies inside and mailed it to me!

I love getting mail from the blog world!

Nathalie sent me this old newspaper from 1959.

I wanted it to use in gift wrapping special items,

but it is so fun to read!

You can find great things in her Ruby Floy Etsy Shop...

and if there are no old newspapers there, just ask!

Next is a get well card that Margaret sent me from Switzerland!
Don't you love it when you find just the Right Thing!
On the back she wrote....Hope you are back on your feet soon!
(I had foot surgery)
(Those are candy buttons.)

Below is an ATC that Christy Grant sent me!

I kind of left hints on her blog about loving it!

When I mail cards out...if I use a real greeting card, I try and alter it somehow.

I was mailing a sympathy card this week to a girl in my "real life". Sympathy cards don't lend themselves to altering really.... but I sewed some lace across the top.

I thought that was perfect since it was her grandmother she lost.

Mail someone some of your creativity today!

Fly-Overs

There is almost always a "fly-over" before the start of the football game at Texas A&M University.
I almost never get a good picture of it tho.
I took about 5...this is the only one with jets in the picture!
Saturday was 9/11 and First Responder Day....
It was a night game.
Remember that...it will be important later.
Above is my daughter-in-law and I!
(married a year this month)
Below are the newlyweds... my daughter and her husband.
(married just over a month)
If she doesn't approve of this photo, it will be different later today...
Yes, we take a lot of pictures... all subject to approval.
Below is the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band.... there are those of you that always want to see them.
Even tho the picture looks the same.
However, I didn't cheat by showing you an old shot....
look in the middle and you can see the red/white and blue Aggie emblem done for the Day.
In the shot below...
if you click on it to make it larger and then click again...
for even larger...
you can see my daughter's in-laws...
(below the ie...in the lower deck)
(thought you'd want to look)
Remember the night game thing I mentioned earlier?
Well...... DIL and I went to the concession stand at the beginning of the 2nd half.
I.... not her.... just me.... (she wandered off to speak to a friend)....
found out that bats don't just do a "fly-over" like those jets...
they drop stuff on you....
I did not take that picture.
For one thing I was afraid to look UP for that long.
And the bats dropping stuff on me were not in the sky...
they were in the rafters of the stadium .... outside the seating area.
It appears (after much research online by yours truly..) that they are migrating to Mexico for the winter.
However, some of them often "meet someone" and decide to stay and set up "housekeeping" at Kyle Field. I've seen them there before (been going to Kyle Field since the early 70's....yes, I was quite young then)..... but I've never seen them in this quantity.
I wasn't going to blog about this.
But it just "came out".

Beeswax, birds and buttons...

Since Monday was a holiday here, I didn't get back into a routine til Tuesday.
Then that day was spent wrapping prizes to be mailed to the giveaway winners
from last week!
Congratulations, winners!
I mailed them on Tuesday between Tropical Storm Hermine downpours!
So I'm finally enjoying some time to regroup in the art room.
Last week I noticed the above piece that I started over a year ago and never finished.
Well, I'm still struggling with it.
I added some beeswax to it..
which doesn't show in the photograph.
This morning I glued that red button
on the front and some creme ones on top.
Still needs something...
So I tied some lace on the side...
Then I found some green trim that I forgot to put in my embroidery package to Margaret..
so I laid that on top....not sure....
Any thoughts?
So... then I decided to photograph my buttons that were sitting there all sweet and sorted.
Back in the 80's we made button bracelets that were sewn on crocheted metallic elastic!
My mother crocheted the bases and BFF Virginia and I sewed our buttons on!
We wore these!
(at least I did)
Now some of them adorn my button jars.
Below is one in black and white on my red button jar.
Here is my green and pink bracelet (a fave) on my creme colored button jar....
I often snip a button off to use! ...and I've been working on my little house stitchery that I ordered from Charlotte Lyons! BFFVirginia and I both ordered from her without telling the other one. We do that a lot. (Pam Garrison rubber stamps.... remember??!!!!) Which reminds me I was going to do a giveaway
of those stamps...
Okay...will do that soon!
