Solder Saves the Day!

Remember this post?
The one about the wonderful half of a birdcage that hangs on your wall?
Well, I ordered it and I did receive it.
But I just wanted to warn you if you order one.....
I paid $20 for shipping and handling ....
they wrapped it really well in giant bubble wrap
and then a black trash bag for the outside.
But...they should have used some cardboard around that top part.
Lucky for all of us....
I didn't panic when I opened it
and saw that the top metal part was bent in shipping.....
and when I straightened it ....
it broke right off!!!!

It would be great if I could weld!!!
But...I can solder - and that did work.
It doesn't hang from that part...so it just needed to be slightly strong!!!!
I have to say that the soldering job pictured below did NOT hold and I had to redo it.
The hardest part was getting the foil tape to stick.
But I finally got it fixed!
I wanted to hang it somewhere downstairs so that EVERYONE could enjoy it!!!
But there just isn't a good place for it.
So I took my bulletin board down and now it hangs over the table in my art room.....
which is really the best place for it!
Doncha love it?

  1. Thanks for the warning. I got the info from you and called the store. The $20 shipping really stopped me in my tracks from ordering, but I think of it a lot. It's soooooo cute. I wish I could find it locally. I may still bite the bullet and get one. I love it a lot!

  2. It's so cute - but for $20 shipping, I would have sent it back rather than fix it!! But you did a great job!!!

What a panic to have to top break off, I think the store needs to be notified, it burns my biscuits that the shipping can be so high at various places!

  6. I have a big white birdcage I bought at a yard sale a year or two ago -- I use it for the same thing -- hanging over my art table! It's pretty with inspirational art from my friends (gotta love trades!) and ribbons!
