More about change....

 We talked here about change....

I've been thinking about it lately for many reasons...

One is that we are building a new house and moving in less than two months....
leaving the house we've lived in for almost 27 years.

Another reason it's on my mind is because it was 40 years ago THIS MONTH that I moved to Houston.
A young, single woman in the big wicked city!

That first photo above is of the Sam Houston Coliseum which was located in downtown Houston and right across the street from where I worked.

I can't begin to tell you all the entertainment events I attended there in the 70's....
from ice hocky to music groups of the 70's!

The Coliseum was torn down in 1998.

You know what the above shot is........ the Houston Astrodome...

First covered stadium in the world.
It was replaced by Reliant Stadium in 2002.
In 2003 it held it's last concert. (George Strait)

I saw Elvis there in the 70's.....

.... and above is The Summit....
I saw many concerts and hockey and basketball games there....

It was replaced by Toyota Center....

In 2003 Lakewood Church leased it....
and then 7 years later purchased it and so now it's a church.

and
I saw Elvis there in the 70's.....

Change is good.

A Loss From My Youth

I spent so many hours in the 1950's and 1960's watching American Bandstand.

Dick Clark MADE American Bandstand great...
he was the perfect host for that venue...
There was never any "talking down" to the teens...
and there was never any flirting with them...
I can't imagine that being achieved in this day!

Today he died at 82.
I'm so glad we got to see him age...
we never thought he'd look older than 25!
It took a stroke to really age him.
I'm glad we had him as long as we did.

He was a national treasure.

Zines again....

I told you here that the QB5 group I'm in is making zines and passing them around for each of us to work in.
I have Nathalie's right now and it's entitled Collections.
It is such a beautiful zine!
Nathalie does such incredible work with recycled materials especially....
I love it and you must go over and look at her zine on her blog.

So what collections do *I* have!!?  Well.......... too many to talk about in her zine!
I'm sure that's true of all of you reading this.
Just walking through my house I see a few.
But I had to narrow it down so there would be room for the others to share their collections....

I settled on one page talking briefly, very briefly, about my collection of Hummel Wannabee** Accordion Players! I bet you've never known anyone that collected those!!!  I have A LOT of them!!!
A slight nod to my buttons.
And then a two page spread about my collection of vintage black & white photos.
That was easy...... too easy ..... and most of my photos are of relatives or friends of my relatives.
When people in the family die..... I often get the old pictures that absolutely no one else wants!
So what do you collect?
Anyone got a Hummel Wannabee Accordion Player they want to sell me?

** Note on Monday the 25th... those are Hummel Wannabees (they are NOT real Hummels)
They are Hummel knock-offs made in Japan and Occupied Japan!

...oh just realized I left off my bird salt & pepper shakers photo...
oh well... I wouldn't want you to think I have a lot of stuff in my house...

Change

First off....... let me just say this.......... the above picture was taken in my favorite store in existence.
The first person to leave a comment naming that store....... will win something.
I don't know WHAT....... but I'll dig up something.

Okay.... about change........... if that store changes it's entire style... I don't know what I'll do.
But I'll do something! I would be very upset.

So a couple of weeks ago I find myself driving home after staying at my daughter's house a few nights. Not often am I in the middle of Houston (big clue to name of store...right?).... with no deadline on where I have to be......... so I exited the freeway and headed to the part of town I was made to live in.... but, alas, that has never happened....

Don't you love the lamp in the above photo!!!!
I may need that in my new house!
Someone take note!!!
It's at Pottery Barn (which is not my most favorite store.... but I do like it.)

About change........ I had heard that Restoration Hardware had changed.
hahahaha
That's an understatement!!!
There is really no reason for me to ever go in there again!!!
But I do like their furniture......  if I win the lottery.... which I didn't last weekend....
Isn't this nice!? I won't even be getting the side table!!!

Okay........... I did find this store......... yeah, I hadn't been in this neighborhood in months....
It's called Mecox Gardens!
Oh Boy! I loved it!
I won't be getting much in there either...
but at least they have a few things I might could possibly get....

See the wire sculpture on that wall?
I might need that!
I might could even MAKE it!!!
Someone should make it and put in on Pinterest with a tutorial, please!
Click to make larger.....

... I seem to be in a year of change...
You know those things happen in cycles.
Mine are 1952, 1962, 1972, 1984 (resisted).
(I need to look up my 2002 &  l992 calendar and see what I'm not remembering.)
Do you have a change cycle?

more to come.....
