Star Couple of My Childhood

Childhood nostalgia week is drawing to an end. I think Christine and I are having a great time.... not sure anyone else is. ha! I will upload pictures of incoming dog inchies later today... or tomorrow.... And.... sometime in the next few weeks I'm going to take us for a stroll down memory lane to visit what it was like to be a teenager in the sixties! But today we are going to see a video about my favorite star couple. They were kind of a "Brad and Jennifer" couple. Yes, they divorced. I was so sad. I think I was about 11 when they got married. But it was a huge deal! So it was at the, what I consider, end of my childhood... so we'll see more about them in my teen years... Aren't you excited!!!? Okay... indulge me.
You probably don't realize that she was the first one to play "Gidget" and succeeded Debbie Reynolds in the "Tammy" movies. I have a whole scrapbook dedicated to Sandra Dee and Annette......more about that another day.

Kookie's Comb & Ricky Nelson

Television in the 50's! Nothing like it..... I know some of you are glad. But look at this first video.... can you believe how young Connie Stevens was? Of course, she went on to star in Hawaiian Eye and all those summer teen movies. Do you remember her name on Hawaiian Eye? And Kookie was Ed Byrnes and what did he do on 77 Sunset Strip? If you can tell me what her name was on Hawaiian Eye and what Kookie's job was on 77 Sunset Strip.... I'll send you a prize! First one to answer correctly wins. Ricky Nelson.... a real reason to watch Ozzie & Harriet! Yes, Christine...he does have great lips.

Childhood Nostalgia Continues...

Who was your first recording star crush? Here is mine...I perfectly remember watching this on American Bandstand. I don't know how old I was... but I can't believe Fabian was only 16 years old! I still have the album with this song on it. Admit it..... he was HOT! Now if I just had a turntable to play it on. I need to do some paper art about the rock stars of the 50's and 60's.

A week of childhood nostalgia

I am a child of the fifties! I am so glad.... I don't think there has ever been a better decade to be a child of. Please share about your childhood this week. I've seen some of this on some other blogs the last few days and I will try very hard this week to remember where and tell you about them soon. ha! So I'm starting the week with a little video from my beloved Mickey Mouse Club. I watched it every afternoon from about 2nd grade til...not sure when. Annette was my first "idol". And I loved "Spin and Marty"... one of the features of the show. I loved Cheryl, too. Darlene was another favorite. I think most of my readers are too young to know about this particular show...but share with me what you watched in elementary school! I bet you can find a video on you tube that you can upload on your blog. If you need help, just ask me! Now it's time to say goodbye...to all my company..... See you real soon! linda

Humorous Art

My friend, Laura, at Layers of Color, is having a challenge that ends Friday. All you have to do is upload some humorous art and then send her a link on her blog. She will have a drawing and you could (I could) win some rubber stamps from her company. So be sure and go visit her site and enjoy the funny stuff! Laura encourages us to bless others with the gift of our art piece. And if we do so, to share that story. Well, I'm blessing Donna with this one! She pretty much wrote and asked for it on the CPA List. She's my kind of gal - ask for what you want! So it's going out in tomorrow's mail to New Mexico.
I noticed after I scanned this ATC that Laura wants you to use one rubber stamp on it...well, it has lots of stamp INK.... and there is a rubber stamp on the back (of Stella's purse)....best I can do right now.

An Ant Wedding?

A lacey spiderweb is being constructed on my gate... do you see her?

The rose bushes are going wild!

I had decided the ants had built their mounds large enough... there were two pretty close together on my patio. So I drug out the ant poison. If you live in South Texas you keep Fire Ant Poison. It's a staple.

After I poured the poison and watered it in... I was noticing the ants were carrying something red. I have a macro setting, btw...they are big...but not THAT big!

They are gathering rose petals!!!!

My friend Melinda called and I asked her why do ants gather rose petals and she said that maybe they were having a wedding. Oh my goodness! I killed them!!! Charley saw the whole thing!!!

Warning!

Success is dangerous. One begins to copy oneself, and to copy oneself is more dangerous than to copy others.

The Shape I Love!

My favorite shape is the shape of a house!!! So the last few days I've been working with that shape - and it does take over my life. Above you see some little house journals that I'm sending to some friends as RAKs. I need to make some more to send before the end of the month. This house is based on one I saw on my friend Tammy Gilley's blog. I love her stuff and she knows I love her stuff. We met at Silver Bella last November. She was my inspiration for those pennants I did last year ... in case you've forgotten. This picture above is the beginning of some House ATCs for a swap on the Christian Paper Artists Yahoo Group. I must get back to working on them very soon. Last weekend was my husband's birthday and we drove into Houston on Friday night and met the kids at Pappadeaux's. I don't know what had just been said... but my kids are looking at each other funny. That's my son's girlfriend in the middle. We made a mistake and took the seat by the bar. We wanted the booth as the girls were cold. It was SO LOUD there - a bunch of guys were on the other side of that glass partition watching the Rockets play and having a very good time. Don't those kids look young? I thought "people are going to think the girlfriend is 15!!!" I assure you all 3 of them are well out of college (Texas A&M) and have good jobs! Praise the Lord! Have a good day!

Dog Inchies

Okay.... since my public is demanding it... and yahoo seems to be having issues with my jpegs: These are my inchies for the Dog Inchie Swap on Christian Paper Artists List. I think they are finished. We'll see. I did more than I need... this way I can keep some of them for myself. Now I have to make bug or butterfly inchies!

‘Idol Gives Back’ Ends with Praise Song

Did you see this last night? If not, click on the title above and go look! They sang "Shout to the Lord" at the end...and then at the beginning of tonight's show! WOW!

Beads and Birds

Friday I went to the Jewelry Show in Houston...I think the real name is International Gem and Jewelry Show. Anyway, I've been before....my friend Connie likes to go and so I - good friend that I am - drag myself there. ha! She looks at gems and I look at stones. I wish I was a jewelry maker, but I can't do everything now can I???? But I did buy a turquoise necklace. And I got some watches for $6. Also got some more hand charms for those dolls I'm going to make one day. I have a little wooden church birdhouse that I usually cram the door shut every summer with a paper towel or cotton to keep the wasps out...but a small bird has set up housekeeping there already. I guess I'm going to have to slide the grill over slightly or we will have baked wrens. If anyone knows what kind of bird this is...tell me. She or he is quick so these are not the best pictures. Won't the babies be fun to photograph! Yes, that's him sticking his head out before he flew away for more pine needles. I've only seen the one...of course it's not like our beloved Cardinals - Henry and Louise - it's hard to tell male from female on this one.

The Love Squared Doll

The Pink Artist Doll - the Reveal is up! Be sure and go see it. She is beautiful. I am so happy that I participated in this... my little square is very simple. I just stitched a crocheted flower onto a square and added a few beads. My mother crocheted all her life. I have a few little crochet flowers that are loose that she made and I used one of those. I have tons of her crochet....but only a few that are in pieces like that. I wrote on the back of my square that it is dedicated to the memory of my mother who died in October of 2003 of lung cancer. She would have wanted to be a part of this doll project.

As you scroll down the page looking at the doll, you will come to the words Do you spot Your square? Mine is in the picture right above those words. You are going to love this doll and her dress.

The doll will be used to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. It will also appear in Art Doll Quarterly™.
Go look, and leave Monica a note. She is incredible.

Today is Charley's birthday! He is 6 years old! This picture was taken the day we brought him home from the breeder. He was 8 weeks old. So must've been end of May 2002. He's still a sweetheart!!!!
