I've Been Tagged

Oh my goodness! Arlene over at Altered State of Mind tagged me! I've never been tagged. This is a hard one, too. I am to list 6 weird or interesting things about myself. I might have a hard time coming up with six things but I'll try. Then after I list 6 things about myself I have to find another six people to tag. 1) The above quilt is one I made for Jerry ver Dorn to put on The Guiding Light. He played the part of Ross Marler for YEARS. So this quilt was on the show at least twice. I do not know where it is now. But at the time our "Blossie" group went wild on the internet...this was in the 90's when the Marler twins were born.
2) I could eat Tex-Mex every day!
3) I have to sit on the aisle in movies, at church, in a class...but not on a plane.
4) My art room is very messy....isn't that interesting?
5) I'm addicted to paper art, but love to embroider and have several quilts that I need to finish, but all I want to do is glue paper together
6) Oh...here's a goodie....I appeared on stage in Galveston in a musical production when the USS Texas was commissioned in September of 2006....that was weird! But fun!
Now I have to pick six lucky people to tag.....Nathalie, Angie Christy, Anna-Marie, Beth, Carrie

Back to School

School started this week! The only child I have in school is my daughter.....who teaches 4th Grade! There is a list going round on the blogs...what do you remember about the first day of school?
*The smell of the books, I loved that.
*The smell of the soap and brown paper towels in the restrooms....I loved that, too.
*Milk money
*My plaid book satchel
*New saddle oxfords
*In Ft. Worth, TX it was hot
Ok...tag you're it!

One day...

A friend sent me the Splenda Flavor Blends for coffee. It's pretty yummy.

I'm waiting for an installer to arrive. Finally picked out some new light fixtures...out with the old gold brass stuff. One of the fixtures hangs in the entry hall from the second story....should be interesting. I have brought art down that needs sewing to occupy myself once they arrive. I don't want to watch. I still sew at the kitchen table...one day I'll rectify that. One day I'll have a dream "studio", too.

I have to call people to come and rip my bathroom apart and make it better. I do not want to do that....but apparently that is the only way it will get done. I have a painter coming tomorrow...I have taken some baby steps....one day it will be all finished and then we'll move. Meanwhile, I'll drink coffee and plan.

Give them wings!

What a blessing it is to have friends that know you would like to get torn butterfly wings from them. These came in the mail from Nathalie. What a joy! Those of you that do collage understand about picking strange items up off the ground and putting it in your pocket. When my twenty-something daughter and I are walking through a parking lot and I suddenly bend down...she says "Don't pick that up." She is already showing concern for what her future children will have in their pockets after they've been to see grandma. Maybe it will be wings!
Because I Said So is a link you really need to look at. Be sure and run to the bathroom before you read it though! Thanks for sharing this with me, Christy!

The Postal Inspector

My postal inspector's name is Charley. He is a five year old Golden Retriever and he knows everything that comes in or goes out of this house. That's my bag for my first trip to the P.O. today....mailing some books for a swap on the Christian Paper Artists Yahoo Group (link in sidebar). It's a gothic shaped book...inspired byBelinda Schneider. Here is a bigger sneak peek...I'm waiting to load the pages until the girls get their books.

Mailing a Swap

These are a few of my buildings for the Unruly Artists Skyline swap over at InThisHouse Yahoo Group The houses above have addresses like #3 Petal Lane and 402 Icy Ewe and 7 Rocky Crown. The above skyscapers are Acme Paint HQ on Gesso Circle and The Wirey Bldg. and The Staples Building. After I scan things I seem to always go back and made adjustments. I added doors to the Wirey Bldg. and The Staples Bldg....just used rectangular silver labels. This is obviously the FBI, with a googlie eye on the front of the structure, along with a sweet house, candy shop and a home on Listing Lane (made out of a phone book page). It will be hard for me to mail these off. It's a 21 for 20 swap with Angela Cartwright. She and Sarah Fishburn have a new book called In This House. There were size constraints and the houses are done with business cards glued together. These are meant to be a border around a room. The variety of houses that have been uploaded on the web site is incredible...can't wait to show you what I get back. These are due the end of the month. So into the mail they go TODAY!

Swap Tease

I'm hosting a swap on Christian Paper Artists right now that is a gothic shaped book done in the shabby chic style about God's Lovingkindness. Most of the pages have arrived and I will be assembling the book next week to mail back out to the participants. It's going to be soooooooo pretty. Here is a tease of the cover... don't want to show the players yet. Have a great, artful weekend!

Nathalie got a blog! Be sure and check it out! Now I have to get busy and see if we are ready for a Hurricane Dean next week. The tropical storm (Erin) brought us so much rain yesterday. I think I have plenty of batteries and water. Could get some more propane..... should be a fun weekend.

Art Arrives in Mail

Don't you love getting art in the mail? It is just the best! This is a RAK (random act of kindness) that I received last week from Nathalie Thompson (who has no blog as of yet...but I'm encouraging her). She made this zine for an online group entry. It's made from those brown lunch bags and is loaded with goodies. It's simply wonderful. Her art always inspires me. She and I are in the Christian Paper Artists Yahoo Group and so I get to see lots of her artistic efforts. Had to share!

Third Triptych

Emily Pruitt did these! The first panel says "Seems like only yesterday you came into our world." Second: "Off to school... How did six years go by so fast?" and Third: "Our little girl, all grown up.... What a lovely bride.." A story we all can relate to of raising a child in our home.

More House Triptychs

When these were first uploaded on the InThisHouse Yahoo Group site, I fell in love with them. Don't you adore these little dresses! THEN I got them in the mail! I was so excited. Luna is the maker of these. Be sure and check out her blog. The text reads "When she was a child her father moved the family so often that it seemed to her as if she had left behind an entire wardrobe of change of a-dresses."

House Triptychs

Back of house triptych by Debbie Dischley. This was a swap on InThisHouse Yahoo Group. This is one of the triptychs I received in the swap. My triptychs have already been on here and one of them is my banner at this time! The middle panel reads "A house is made of walls and beams; a home is built with love and dreams." Here is the front:

The first panel says "A house is a home when it shelters the body and comforts the soul."

Second panel reads "The ornament of a house is the friends who frequent it." and the third panel says "Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man."

I'll add another one I received tomorrow. I just love these. I love the house shape...I'm not sure why I love that shape so. There is another swap going on there that I'm in...making houses and other buildings (a skyline) out of business cards. I haven't started mine yet...they are due the end of the month and I have a swap on Christian Paper Artists to finish first. I'll show you peeks soon.

Charming

I also mailed my charm swap off last Friday. The ones that say "create" are the ones I sent for the swap on Christian Paper Artists Yahoo Group. They turned out pretty well after all. I ordered some "non-toxic" flux and a "Helping Hand" from Simply Swank. That Helping Hand thing looks like it will be my most valuable tool ever!

Inspire!

I mailed my "inspiration box" to my Silver Bella pal .
It's full of goodies!
